Mother Goose (2025) - Joanna Vymeris - short film

Mother Goose had it’s world premiere in competition at the 78th Edinburgh International Film Festival 2025 where it won the Thelma Schoonmaker award for Short filmmaking excellence and a prize of £15,000. Mother Goose will have its London premiere at the 69th BFI London Film Festival 2025. It was the 2024 winner of From The Silver Screen Analog Production funding, supported by Kodak, Arri rental, Green Kit and Company 3, and starring Sophie Thompson (Four Weddings and a Funeral) and the voice of Ralph Ineson (The Witch). Mother Goose is written by Hugh Stubbins , directed by Joanna Vymeris and produced by Bernardo Angeletti for Strange Question Productions.

After the death of her husband, Janet decides to distract herself by rearing a goose, which is to be the centrepiece of her Christmas dinner. However, as she grows ever more isolated from her daughter, Janet’s need to nurture the goose becomes an obsession: one which will cost her dearly. A modern day Grimm’s fairy-tale about grief, isolation… and a goose.
